What a day! Today was very successful. We all woke up this morning feeling a little stir crazy because we had spent so much time in our room and wanted to go explore. Inez was able to talk with the teacher here and arrange a trip out for us, with the Fulbright student, so we could have a little fun.
Before getting to go out and explore, we had a lot of fun in the classroom. We introduced the students to verbs today, which proved to be fun because there are a lot of games that can be played while learning verbs. For example, one game allowed Inez to demonstrate the crab walk! We continued watching a movie, which the kids are eating up. They love watching them because they are easy to understand and don't require a lot of thought. Lunch today was incredible, and we realized they are catering to us and what we are comfortable with. We had a pork/sweet potato cutlet, with a fruit salad and broccoli and cheese soup! It was very Americanized, but still delicious!
After class we got to go on our adventure. We started out taking a cab to a nearby town, where we went into the equivalent of a dollar store and bought fuzzy socks. We then got on a bus and went to another town, where we shopped and ate in Home Plus, which is a glorified Walmart. The food we ate was much like a McDonald's, but less greasy and much more tasty. Molly and I were very excited to see cheese, even though we realize it was probably not real cheese. We then got back on the bus to go to the town we started in, to catch a cab back to the school. It was awesome!
We have spent a lot of quality bonding time together today and have created some great quotes. One of my favorites happened when we were discussing what to do if there was a fire because there are so many locks to open in order to get in or out of the dormitory. Molly chimes in with "it won't burn; it's too cold!" It's been a good day and our excitement to be here has increased significantly!
