Berlin
Yesterday while on our second day in Amsterdam, we went to the old church early in the morning. After that we all split up and then we all meet up at the Frank house at 11:30am. The Frank house was an experience that I will never forget. I have read the Diary of Anne Frank but now I have an actual picture of what the building actuallly looked like where Anne lived for 3 years of her life. It was hard to go up the stairs and pass the bookcase to the Secret Annex that the Franks and their friends lived in because knowing that out of the 8 people that where hiding in the house, only Otto Frank made it through the Hollocaust. Along the walls of the upstairs compartment of the house where quotes from Annes diary. The writtings along the wall of each room put me in perspective of what maybe Anne was feeling those three years that she went into hiding. After the Anne Frank house, we all went to the pancake bakery and it was AMAZING!!!!!! The pancakes in Amsterdam are thinner than American pancakes are shaped like a pizza. Many people got cheese, bacon, and ham baked in their pancakes. I got a pancake with bananas, chocolate syrup, and whipped cream. It was delicious and way better than American pancakes.
We then got on a overnight train and arrived in Berlin at 4:00am this morning. After getting lost, we arrived at out hotel at 6:30pm, dropped off our stuff, and headed out on a tour bus. We saw the Berlin wall, charlies checkpoint, and the gate that separated east and west Berlin. For lunch we had to find our way to the Hardrock cafe and the subway system was a little tricky at first especially for a person like me who gets lost all the time. But once you got the hang of it, the subway system was not that bad. Hopefully we will all have the subway system down by tomorrow and in my case I am going to follow someone who knows what they are doing!
