Allison mentioned the tornadoes, manual labor, and Easter egg excitement, but a few of us also went to the AIDS Interfaith Network (AIN) in Dallas (check them out at www.aidsinterfaithnetwork.org). We took food donations to the center and learned more about their role in assisting those afflicted and affected by AIDS.
It was fascinating to hear about their history. They serve over 2,000 meals EVERY DAY! This organization also provides rides for those who need them and provides free bus passes. It was this tiny operation but clearly serves many people. We were told that the individuals are unable to take their medication and be healthy without their basic needs such as food and shelter being taken care of first. They are faith based, but do not press any religion on their clients.
It was very interesting to see the adult care side of things. They also had information for the adults on Bryan's House if they had any children. It was so cool to see these nonprofits working together. Hopefully tomorrow is a safer day and please keep those in the area in your thoughts and prayers!
