Today we joined the garden crew and helped plant, weed and harvest different parts of the garden. We also got to tour more of the ranch and walk through the greenhouse. Heifer Ranch does community supported gardening (CSA) so much of the crop we worked with today will feed shareholders and will be used in the ranch kitchens for meals. We will probably get to eat the collard greens we harvested tomorrow for dinner.
This morning we planted onions (see previous post) and then removed Colorado potato beetles from the potato plants. Those are pretty little bugs that can do a lot of damage to a potato crop. Brittany - a volunteer we worked with had a handful! We also weeded two long rows of carrots.
Now, we are getting ready to do the Global Village experience. All we really know about this activity is that we will spend the night in the global village and we cannot bring food, electronic devices, watches or any personal item that would take us away from the group (books). We are all a little anxious but excited!
