Building a team and a fence

| Location: Perryville, AR 72126, USA
Today at Heifer Ranch we started with some "Challenge" activities to build communication and trust in our team. Normally alternative spring breaks at the ranch involve several teams from different colleges; however, our group is the only one this week so we are able to really get to know each other! One activity  required us to fit as many people as possible through a hula hoop. We fit eight!
Eight of our group members fit through a hula hoop. Jess can be seen laughing - from the outside!

We also had to complete The Bermuda Triangle. It was tough and definitely tested our patience. But we got it!
Task: Create a free-standing structure with three poles and three stands. The structure must safely hold humans!

In the afternoon, we did service work with the maintenance crew. April and I worked with Rob, a ranch volunteer who is hoping to start his own farm soon. We helped Rob set up a electric fence for new pasture which will likely hold hogs. I was amazed at how hard April worked! Turns out her family has a small farm with goats and peacocks (among other animals)!

April and Rob crimp a splice in the electric fence.
April nails an insulator to a wooden post.
There is so much more to share...the delicious food, beautiful Ozark mountains, crazy animals, interesting lessons about sustainability and conscious living. I hope to share more tomorrow. Plus, our service work tomorrow is with the livestock! Maybe we'll get to milk a goat!
