Think Tanks and Capitol Steps

We had a 9:00 meeting at the American Enterprise Institute. We were invited to a Think Tank discussion about Taxation of Innovation in a Global Economy. There were four panels with speakers from PricewaterhouseCoopers, GE, NYU, Harvard, and IFS. We were definitely in the midst of a lot of brilliant minds in the economic taxation field. For the majority of the students, the first pannel from the PricewaterhouseCoopers employees was the best. These two introduced us to the Research and Development Tax Credit and the reforms that are potentially going to pass through into discussion on the Senate floor. We learned all about innovation/patent boxes that relate to Intellectual Property and its taxation. I was the only student on this trip that has taken a tax class, so I think most of our group was pretty lost (and pretty bored) during the panel.

Tonight, we had the opportunity to go to Capitol Steps, a comical show about DC Politics. A few of the Seniors in our group had seen a Capitol Steps performance at an ACES event on BVU's campus a few years ago. The entire performance was hilarious. There is no topic that is off-limits to this group. Every party, political figure of DC, and presidential nominee hopeful was made fun of; we definitely had a good time!

Tomorrow is our last day in DC. We are hoping to head to the zoo (if the snow lets up!) and to a last couple of museums before we fly back to the midwest.
