We left Berlin and took the train Prague. We rode through a beautiful river valley that provided some of the most scenic views on the trip so far. That is, until we arrived in Prague (see Jennifer's blog for pictures)! Though many in the group were a little apprehensive about Prague before we got there, we quickly realized that the city was easy to move around (and easy to get lost), and the pace was much slower than Berlin. The people were also much friendlier (Where are your from? Iowa? I know this. It was one of the 50 states in America. Enjoy Prague! I wish it were warmer for you.) We quickly checked into our hotel and met our guide, Jitka, who took us on a walking tour of the Old Town Square and pointed out several restaurants that we might like to try.
The next day, we met a second tour guide who took us on a walking tour of the cathedral and castle complex. The cathedral was among the most impressive sights yet. We finished the tour by walking across the Charles Bridge, which also provided some amazing views of the sunset. Many of us decided that Prague was our favorite stop on the trip so far, and we wished that we could stay longer.
After our short stop in Prague, we got up very early to catch a train to Salzburg. Salzburg is another relatively small, but very pretty, town. When we arrived and made our way to the hotel, we were greeted with the largest snowflakes I have ever seen. While the snow makes for wonderful scenery, we are hoping that it will let up so we can take pictures of the castle on Sunday. We had a group dinner, the best of the trip, on Saturday night. I recommend the schnitzel and warm apple strudel with vanilla cream sauce!
