This afternoon was quite an adventure. We arrived in Chicago about a half an hour early, so our entire group took the “L” downtown to find some lunch. We ended up at Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria—the home of the original Chicago deep dish pizza. Back at the airport, we boarded our plane, only to find out that the rear door to our plane wouldn’t close. We sat on the airplane for a good hour before unboarding and making our way to a different terminal. Once there, it was still a wait before we were allowed on the plane. On the plane, we still couldn’t leave. Corporate red tape made it so all of the meal service items needed to be brought from our first plane onto our new plane. One problem: the plane was moved (re: missing). So we did what we’ve learned to do best on this trip: sit and wait.
We finally made it up in the air, were served free drinks, given apology notes (free miles/discounts!), and then touched-down at La Guardia! We finally made it to NYC!
We’re staying at the Comfort Inn-Manhattan on 35th Street. To really understand just how expensive and valuable real estate is in Manhattan, we didn’t have to look much further than our hotel. Gone are the spacious hotel rooms of Iowa. Let’s just say this is going to be interesting fitting everything that four 21 year old girls could possibly need into a room smaller than a BVU dorm. We’re definitely going to come up with creative ways to organize all of our suitcases, etc. Good thing we don’t plan on sleeping all that much this week!
Needless to say, I appreciate legroom much more after today. Hopefully the rest of New York City goes a little more smoothly :) Tomorrow is our first full day in New York and we’re excited to experience everything the city has to offer!
