Goodbye DC

Our last day in DC was spent at museums, the flea market, and ended with a nice dinner. We started the morning off by going to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. We explored the ocean creatures and saw the longest squid ever. We also learned about the rescuing of the Chilean miners and saw the equipment used. I cannot believe they were down there for two months before the rescue! We also walked through an Evolution exhibit. This exhibit really makes a person think about human life. They laid out facts and let the people come to their own conclusions. I could have easily spent all day at this museum!

We then ventured over to the Eastern Market. This is Washington DC's only open air market. I was looking forward to this little flea market. However, we found out that the city almost shuts down at the sign of snow. Since they had received about an inch of snow, not many vendors showed up for the market. We did find some great lunch here though.

Next we ventured through the Air and Space Museum. I was quite suprised to learn about the requirements of flight attendants in the 30s-50s. They had to be pretty short as well as thin. They had to be manicured, hair done, and uniforms pressed at all times. Once we explored the planes from then, we soon learned why they needed to be short. All of us had to duck to go through the plane! We then walked around the city. We were going to go through Ford's Theater, but it was closed. We bought some souveniers and headed off to dinner. We ate at Eventide. This restaurant was one of the nicest restaurants I have been to. It was a great experience that I think all students should do. We learned the etiquette of fine dining and ate a great meal.

Sunday we took the Metro to the airport to return to Omaha. After quite the security screening and pat downs, we finally boarded the plane. It was a bumpy ride with all the turbulance due to the storms, but we landed in Houston for a short layover then made it into Omaha shortly before 8:00 pm. We all got our bags and headed on our way to get some much needed rest.

I think I can speak for everyone that we all had a great trip. It was very action packed with new experiences for everyone. I am so glad I decided to go on this trip!
