We had a quick flight to Minneapolis and then it was on to Amsterdam. The second leg of the flight was about 8 hours. We had all hoped to get some shut-eye during this flight, but, for a variety of reasons, most of us got very little sleep, if any. Despite that, we still hit the ground running as soon as we landed.
We checked into our hotel, the NH Galaxy. It's kind of fun and modern.
We went to the Centraal Station to validate our Eurorail tickets, the Rijksmuseum to enjoy a little art, and the red light district to....well, to assess the varying social norms as compared to the U.S.? (I think my favorite line of the evening was...."you won't see that in Odebolt.")
We rode on trains, buses, trams, and a ferry. We ate tasty food (hotdogs, poffertjes, and Dutch donuts) from street vendors. I'm a little embarrassed to report that I couldn't make it to midnight so Neal, Matt, and I ate pizza and then called it an early night. I'm pretty sure that I was asleep by 10pm. The sleep was shortlived, however, because the fireworks began at midnight and carried on throughout the night. But, so far, it's been a great trip, and I'm certain that it's only going to get better with each new day and new experience.
