This morning started out a little bit rushed because the girls in our room missed breakfast. We decided to run down the street to subway where the workers had no idea what the breakfast sandwiches were. We made it out alive, and we were on our way to the Rockefeller plaza once again. We had an art and architecture tour scheduled. Our tour guide took us throughout the buildings that Mr. Rockefeller, JR had built during the Great Depression. I couldn’t believe that he was paying over a million dollars for rent of the area clear back in the 1920’s! Our tour guide was full of information about the various murals in the first building. There were sets of four that show the progress of the United States; however, none of the artists are from America. They had to envision US progression from overseas without seeing it first-hand! Our tour guide was weirdly obsessed with all of the heating and air conditioning ducts in the building. They are covered in unique ways so that they don’t look like ducts. It makes it more aesthetically pleasing to the eye. It was crazy to think that one company could create so many jobs during the Great Depression just by building a few skyscrapers.
This afternoon we spent at David Letterman! We had to pick up our tickets a few hours before the show. In the meantime, we all killed time at Three Monkeys, a bar/restaurant right around the corner that the Letterman staff promotes. It was interesting to see the marketing behind this arrangement. Use the restroom for free, but it gets so many people in the door. By the time everyone had their tickets, the place was packed! An interesting way to drum up more business. At Late Night, we were given gift certificates for free shakes, burgers, and fries at the new Steak and Shake next door. None of us have been there before, since the chain isn’t around our hometown.
Tomorrow morning, we’re starting off early at the Today Show—a 6:15 meeting time in the lobby. I’m thinking it’s going to have to be an early night. The Today show is celebrating its 60th birthday, so we’re in the process of making birthday cards for the show :) Everyone should watch tomorrow morning to see if they can catch any of our group on TV!
