This morning we took a tour of the famous Yankee Stadium. They were actually still converting the field back to the baseball diamond after having laid turf for the Pinstripe Bowl (We could still read Iowa State in the endzone!). While on the tour, we learned about Don Larsen and Yogi Berra's perfect game during the World Series in 1956 as well as how Thurman Munson's actual locker has been moved to their museum after he died in a plane crash. We also learned that over 500 security guards are needed for each game, and 1100 flat screens are located throughout the stadium to make sure everyone can see what is going on.
After the tour, we were free to do as we chose. Kacie, Emily, and I had gotten matinee tickets yesterday to see The Fantasticks today. We found Snapple theater, and it was much smaller than we were expecting. We were seated quite quickly in our front row seats. We were pleasantly suprised to find one of the lead roles being played by Aaron Carter - our pre-teen crush. With Aaron literally dancing and singing just inches away from us, we were quite entertained. After the show, we were hanging around in the theater, and the cast actually came out to sign autographs and take pictures. Needless to say, I finally have a picture with Aaron Carter as well as his autograph after so many years!
We then decided to try our luck scalping tickets for the Knick's basketball game at Madisen Square Garden. After a little misreading of our subway map, we finally made it to the game. We went inside to the cancellation line and were told tickets were going to be over $100 at the cheapest! They also warned us to not buy them on the street because they were fake. We then walked out quite disappointed, but we were entertained to listen to the bidding going on outside. The price fluctuated quite a bit with the supply of tickets. Before the game, they were very expensive; however, after tip-off, they were almost cut in half. Ten minutes after the game had started, the tickets lowered even more. We witnessed a price slash from $380 down to $80! It was really cool to see an actual market at work even if it was only on the street corner.
Don't forget to watch for us in the audience of the David Letterman show Thursday (tomorrow) night and the Today Show Friday morning!!
