My classes on the ship started at 8:00 am, so I got up around 7:30 to make my way to the conference room. The classes all week cover mental health and addictions; this morning focused on behavioral effects from different drugs, and then we covered social aspects of drinking (such as encouragement from peers, etc.).Everyone in the classes seems very nice, so I think it will be a great class in general.
Clint and I went to the ship's buffet for lunch, then left the ship for our first port, which was Bari, Italy. It's a quaint town, and we visited two churches here and walked around the outside of a castle. We felt like we saw most of what the town had to offer (besides shopping, which didn't interest us), so we then came back on the ship and went to the gym to work out for an hour. The workout seemed necessary for both of us, considering how much we've been eating & drinking.
We also decided to participate in one of the dozens of on-ship activities available, so we went to a trivia contest in one of the bar lounges. We came in at second place, and got keychains as our prize (the first prize was a magnet).
After trivia, we went to the ship library, where you can borrow books or board games for whatever amount of time you want them, and just bring them back when you're done. So we played "Scrabble."
In the evening, we went to our first of the three fancy restaurants, the sushi place. I have tried around five types of sushi in the past, and I hated all of them (because I hate seafood), but Clint ordered some, and I tried two little pieces. Travel is about trying new things, right? They were surprisingly not gross! I still wouldn't want to eat them regularly, but the sushi here on the ship really are good quality. For myself in the same restaurant, I ordered "hot rock," which is when you get raw meats & veggies, then cook them on top of a heated slab of stone. It was really delicious!
Finally, we ended our day in the ship Casino, where we lost around $30 (total). I love playing poker, and there was a Texas Hold 'Em tournament going on. I would have considered playing, but the minimum bet was $1000. Yikes!
