In Rwanda!

Today was mostly a travel day. We had a five hour drive back to the Nairobi airport, coming from the Maasai Mara. The remote dirt road was extremely bad in some places; we were told we were getting an "African massage" from all the bumps. Still, it was great to see the Kenyan countryside for the last time.

We had a good flight on Kenya airways (a 75 minute flight served us a hot meal!), and landed in Rwanda. Our first impression is that it's absolutely gorgeous here. There's no litter (due to heavy fines) and almost no crime (due to severe "security"). The famous "1000 hills" are beautiful -- although hopefully they won't cause me problems with motion sickness.

After checking into the hotel, we all immediately took long, hot showers, as it's been three days since we last bathed. We then took a walk around the neighborhood and had dinner. We all toasted the McCorkles for making this trip possible.

Tomorrow we have another long drive. We'll stop by the city of Butare for lunch, then drive to the rainforest for a day trekking chimpanzees.
