Service with livestock

This morning we helped care for the livestock on the ranch. We fed and milked goats and then bottle-fed that milk to the kids. More people in the world consume goat milk than cow milk making goats a popular animal for Heifer International to introduce to communities around the world. Goats also provide the seven "M" words - milk, manure, muscle, meat, materials, money and motivation – and are manageable for kids to care for because of their smaller size.

I milked this goat! Her name is Ivy.
Odette is the little kid I bottle fed!

My previous post showed Whitney milking a goat. She got the rhythm of milking and was able to do it with both hands like a pro!

After feeding and milking, we split into groups for more livestock work. My group – Elizabeth, Whitney and Michael – herded sheep and then got very personal with them! I'll explain more in another post. We're off to learn more about Heifer's organization model and apply that to an issue at BV! It's an exciting project that we can't wait to share!
