Recalling my trip to New York City

When recalling my trip to New York City that I took a couple of weeks ago, I have a hard time imagining that it really did happen! It almost seem like an alternate universe branching off from my actual life. Luckily, I have photos to prove that I was indeed in New York City!

From March 17-20, I, along with three other students and the Digital Media faculty, went to NYC to attend the Spring College Media Association Convention held at the Sheraton in Manhattan.

Walking into the main conference room and being surrounded by students who had similar passions as my own was a great feeling. Everyone was very curious and willing to learn how to not only improve their own skills within the media field, but how to take those skills and apply them to their own campus media organizations. The CMAs even took it one step further by also giving us the opportunity to prepare ourselves for the "real world."

It was great being able to interact with students and speakers who were all motivated by a common purpose: to explore and expand our media skills in college and beyond. I came back with over 200+ story ideas for our campus newspaper, The Tack, as well as ideas on how to push the newspaper into the 21st century and possibly even beyond what most college newspapers are doing already.

Of course, I did enjoy some nightly activities with the other students and faculty such as walking to Grand Central Station! It's absolutely beautiful! I never thought it would be so grandiose! The detail on the building is magnificent when seen in person. I couldn't get over how big it was either! In the movies, sure it looks big, but step inside of that building in person--it's insane how small you feel!

NYC was a great experience. I learned so much and was able to experience the culture of an iconic city, which is also one of the top publishing hubs of our nation.

I would definitely go back there if I could!
