Transylvania, Day 5: School is in Session

At breakfast, our group asked each other if anyone experienced anything supernatural, due to the haunted nature of the hotel. Three rooms actually heard unexplainable noises or had locked doors/windows open - hurray! Unfortunately for me, I slept quite soundly and didn't see any ghosts or vampires.

We started our day with a lovely tour of the Fortress. Due to the previous day's snowstorm, the entire city was cloaked in a glorious white blanket. Below are several pictures from this beautiful experience. We saw the church, cemetery, and clock tower. The cemetery has gravestones going all the way back to the 1200s, and the church has an underground crypt with 60 bodies that are so old, no one knows who they are.

We then had a two hour bus ride to Brasov, another middle ages city that is still alive today. I had a delicious lunch, then we go to see the Black Church (the largest Gothic church in Romania), and we had a tour of the first ever language school in Romania. The lovely professor/priest who runs the school museum showed us his treasure trove of 600-year-old books and printing press.

We now sleep in a hotel which is near the official "Dracula Castle," which we'll tour tomorrow morning.

The photos are all from the fortress, except the last one, which is the ancient printing press.
