Stonehenge!

Today was one of the most epic days of touring in my life, and that's saying something!

This morning after breakfast at the hotel, we loaded up a private bus and took the two hour drive to Woodhenge. This is like Stonehenge, but probably even older (around 5000 BCE for both). The site of woodhenge is still there, but the wood mostly rotted away over the years. So, now there are small concrete pillars to indicate where the original wood poles made six concentric circles.

Only 5 minutes away was the amazing and epic Stonehenge. I've see a lot of things, such as the Taj Mahal and the Great Wall of China, and I include Stonehenge in the list of monuments that you can really only fully appreciate if you are there to see it yourself. It's absolutely huge, and the work it required to build is truly amazing. You can get within a few feet of the stones, and walk all the way around to see it from all angles. Luckily for the group is was a beautiful day to walk around the structure and appreciate its beauty.

After viewing these historic locations, we drove to the nearby picturesque town of Bath (named for the Roman baths that used to be here). This is absolutely one of the most quaint and lovely towns I've ever seen. We grabbed some lunch in a little pub and walked around to appreciate the views.

After two hours' drive back on the bus, we had an hour break, then took the Underground to meet our guide in the neighborhood of London where all five "Jack the Ripper" murders occurred. Our guide tonight was fantastic, and we learned all about the murders and various hypotheses regarding who he was. I've seen several documentaries over the years on Jack the Ripper, but everything seems so much more interesting and personal when you're standing right in the place where history happened.

After the tour, some of us went for a Japanese late dinner, then topped the night off with some drinks at the pub down the street from our hotel.

It was a wonderful, beautiful day.

Below are some pictures from today, including a beautiful church we saw in Bath, Clint and me at Stonehenge, and the spot where Jack the Ripper's first victim was found.
