Learning More Disney Secrets With Lou Mongello

Thursday January 12, 2012:

Bright and early, once again, we made our way to our next class.  Today was our first day in the Magic Kingdom and we happened to meet with Lou Mongello.  Lou Mongello is like a Disney super-fan who turned his passion into his career.  Lou walked us through the parks letting us in on even more hidden stories about Disney World.  It is crazy how many interesting stories are walked by every day in Disney World and the guests don't even notice.  Lou's stories were very intriguing.  In addition to his Disney insight, he spoke to us about the use of social media.  Turns out that he started out writing a book, which ended up turning into articles on the web and then eventually podcasts.  Social media is a huge factor in today's age and there are many different ways to use it.  Lou suggested that we use it as a communication tool to contact and converse with other people rather than using it for pushing information on people.

Today was one of the nicest days of the week.  We've been watching the weather and knew that the next couple of days were going to be chilly.  So after the tour and some lunch, Amanda, Kayla, and I hit up Blizzard Beach.  Blizzard Beach is a Disney water park.  We only spent a couple of hours there, but it was a good resting time.  We've been walking through Disney parks for over a week and it was amazing to get off of our feet for a while.

If you've never been to Disney World, you have to understand that it is enormous!  When I talk about us going from park to park, I mean we take a bus to each location.  Because our hotel is a Disney resort, we can take Disney transportation to any Disney location.  It takes a little bit of time to do such traveling, but the buses are extremely convenient in comparison to trying to drive everywhere.  Disney World is actually 40 square acres total.  I've been told that it's about the same size as San Francisco.

After the water park we headed back to the Magic Kingdom.  We knew that this would be one of the only days for us to catch the fireworks.  I've never been a huge fan of fireworks because I don't care for loud noises, but I thought they were amazing.  When I say amazing, I mean even better than Disneyland.  I did find out that Disney World spends about $7,500 on the fireworks show EACH DAY!  To cut down on costs, Disney even manufactures their own fireworks.  Wow, listen to me.  I sound like a Disney genius!
