Last day in Berlin

The last two days that we have had in Berlin have been the most interesting and exciting days that we have had on this trip so far. Yesterday we went to museum island which is a spot that contains five museums of different types of art. The museums that I was able to make it to were the Neues museum and the Bode museum. I thought that the Neues museum was the best out of the two because it contained artwork and artifacts of pottery, scrolls, and statues of Pharos of ancient Egypt. The bode museum contained artwork and sculptures of different types of religion. The most interesting types of art were through the renaissance period and the Gods of Rome. Today was probably one of the toughest days that anyone on the trip has gone through. We visited the Sanchenhausen concentration camp. This was a labor camp and a political prison from 1939 to 1945. SS troops were also trained at this camp. The weather today was gloomy and cold which added to the atmosphere and mood of the camp. It was complete silence and it almost felt wrong to talk or say anything at the camp. At this camp the workers made shoes and then tested them. To test these shoes the workers would have to put on the shoes and run down a path. The problem with this testing...the workers were forced to run along this path with shoes two sizes too small and would have to wear heavy bags which would cause some to fall. If you fell during this testing...you were more likely to be shot. The toughest part was looking at the trenches, the gas chambers, the gallows, and where the oven once stood in the camp. Each day the soldiers would pick prisoners to stand by the trenches to be shot and pushed deep into the ground. This camp became more of a death camp once the gas chamber and ovens were put in. After we left it was depressing and a shock to actually realize what some of the prisoners went through everyday and to walk the paths that the prisoners walked each day and were most of them spent the last days of their life. After the concentration camp, Kelsey essick and I wanted to get more picture of the Berlin wall. Well we went out on own and we were led in a couple of wrong directions and some dark streets, but we got some good pictures :). That's all for Berlin. Hope you guys are enjoying the stories! Next stop...Prague!!
