Yayy! I've finally caught up on my blogging! Be sure to check back on some of my older posts because I've added pictures to some of them. More pictures are coming, I promise. I've been having some technical difficulties with my laptop.
Today's master class was called 'Keys to the Kingdom' in the Magic Kingdom. Our very lovely tour guide, Landon, filled us in on what life is like from behind the scenes. He walked us through parts of the Magic Kingdom and expanded our Disney knowledge even further. The Disney company leads with four main concerns: safety, courtesy, show, and efficiency. Landon walked us through examples, both on and off stage, that portrayed these 4 words. For the last part of our tour, he took us through the utilidoor. The utilidoor the the main level of the Magic Kingdom. When Walt Disney bought the land for Disney World, it was a huge swamp area. One of his close friends/accomplices devised a tunnel like level that cast members could get around the park in. It is, apparently, not easy to dig in Florida because of the water levels, so the main 'tunnel-like' area was built first and then the Magic Kingdom was put on top. It is not technically a tunnel system, but that is what it is often times referred to as.
Landon also spoke to us about the Disney College Program. It is a collaborating program that brings college students to learn through the techniques of Disney. Landon was a great person to talk to us about this because he was actually in this program at one time and got hired not too long afterwards. I've been really thinking about doing this sometime in my Junior year, but I'm not sure what I would go for. There are many different areas that one can go into and learn from. I'm in media now, but most people know that I aspire to be a Disney princess. If I could get into the program and do some media/public relations/advertising & marketing in addition to being a princess, I'd be set! Oh goodness, sounds like I need to figure out what I want to do with my life first.
Once again, the remainder of the day was ours. Kayla, Amanda, and I hit some attractions in FantasyLand. We were eager to compare the same attractions from the two different parks. The Snow White attraction in Disney World is far better than the one in Disneyland. I can't remember if I already mentioned this, but the Snow White attraction in Disneyland was broken. It ended with the witch and that's not at all what happened with the movie. It was supposed to be happily ever after with the witch dying and Snow White being saved by the Prince. In Disney World, the story is fixed.
Unfortunately, we waited in line for about 70 minutes to get on the Peter Pan attraction. It was one of our favorite attractions in Disneyland, but it wasn't as impressive in Disney World. Not only did we wait for 70 minutes, but it was also a very chilly day. I don't think temperatures reached above 60. I shouldn't be complaining because I know it is much colder at home, but this is my vacation! Hopefully it is not as chilly tomorrow!
Tomorrow, everyone gets to sleep in except Jerry and I. We are getting up early to meet with Beth Blankers and her family. Her sons happen to be the stars of a documentary that we are working on. Beth's sons names (only coincidentally) are Roy and Walt. We're hoping to get some good footage of Roy and Walt Blankers' first time in Disney World.
Later tomorrow afternoon, we get to meet with Jim Korkis, Disney Historian. I had the opportunity of meeting Jim earlier this school year and am extremely excited to see him in Disney's Hollywood Studios. Jim is going to continue educating us about how to be a good storyteller. I will say that I think Jim is a great storyteller himself and I think that the other students will really enjoy meeting him!
Only two more days left of this wonderful storytelling vacation! I will be making the best of it!
