Exploring the Animal Kingdom

Tuesday January 10, 2012:

After a short night's rest, we got up for another early morning.  This time, we were off to Disney's Animal Kingdom for our Keepers of the Kingdom tour.  This was maybe one of my favorite tours... I love all the animals!  We started off our morning by riding the biggest roller-coaster in all of Animal Kingdom, Mount Everest.  It was seriously 9:00am and I was screaming on a thrill ride.  I've never even considered doing such a thing that early in the morning.  Our tour guide, Marie, did an awesome job telling us the back stories of Animal Kingdom.  My favorite story was about the Tree of Life.  It all started with an ant who ended up finding a seed that he planted.  The seed grew into a magnificent tree that attracted all types of animals.  As other animals came to visit, their images were imprinted into the trunk and roots of the tree and the ant had lots of new friends.  Another story... who would have thought!

Marie also took us on the animal safari attraction.  Not only is it great to go to these attractions with a tour guide because they have a lot of information to share, but because they can also skip you to the front of the long waiting line!  I took lots of pictures of the animals and I think the whole group enjoyed the exhilarating ride.

Marie took us backstage a lot.  Sometimes I wished that I had pictures to share of the things I saw, but photography backstage isn't allowed.  We were able to walk through the areas that they keep the animals at night and the building where all of the meals for the animals are prepared.  An animal encounter was included.  This is where we met Eddie the skunk.  My most favorite part came next.  We were able to walk into the elephant house and learn how the keepers interact with the elephants.  There's no way I'd be able to do what they do.  They are more than just keepers, they're more like friends to the elephants.  If I come back in another life as an animal, I hope I'm an animal in Disney World.

After lunch in Dinoland, Kayla, Amanda, and I jumped on a bus to get to Disney's Hollywood Studios.  Hollywood Studios is kind of like California Adventure.  It is hard to compare Disneyland and Disney World.  Yes, they are very similar, but at the same time very different.  We went to Tower of Terror, again, and then got on the Aerosmith roller-coaster.  We actually got to ride Tower of Terror twice!  The creepy bell hop (he was being a very good actor) was extra generous to us three by letting us skip ahead in line for a second round AND he gave us free fastpass tickets!  Score!

Great way to start of the second half of our trip!
