Most of us decided not to get up and wait in line for tickets for SNL this morning; however, Stan, Jeremy, and Alex did go. They receieved standby tickets and are waiting in line to see if they make it into the show at 11:30 tonight. They said people had camped out overnight! Now that is dedication!
3 of us went to Carlo's Bakery in Hoboken, New Jersey. Carlo's Bakery is home to Cake Boss, a show on TLC that I am a huge fan of. Sadly, I did not see Buddy, but his youngest sister, Lisa, was present, and we did get a picture with her! We also purchased some cupcakes and cookies which are just as delicious as they look on TV.
Next, we took a bus and the subway down to the South Street Seaport where we boarded a ferry to visit the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. The Statue of Liberty was so beautiful. While there, we took typical tourist pictures as well as read quick facts about Lady Liberty. We then boarded the ferry again to Ellis Island. While we were looking at different names, we actually came upon a sheet of paper that explained how a family ended up settling in Alta, Iowa! We also looked at an Alcatraz collection and stories of multiple families.
We then had true New York strip steaks at West Side Steakhouse. This food and service was absolutely wonderful. No one left the restaurant hungry that is for sure. A few of us then went shopping in Chinatown. What an experience this was after dark! Most of the shops had the same items - fake purses, scarves, and sunglasses. We did get some good deals, but it was also quite humorous to watch. On each of the corners, men had burlap sacks of stolen purses that they would quickly wrap up if anyone spotted a cop car in sight. All of the shops closed around 9ish, so we came back to the hotel to pack.
Tomorrow we are going to church at St. Patrick's Cathedral then catching a train from Penn Station to Washington DC.
