Amsterdam to Berlin
Well, the couchette was an interesting experience! For those of you who are unaware, a couchette is the room that one sleeps in while traveling on these overnight trains. The ones we stayed in consisted of six beds (three stacked on each side) in a very confined space. Matt Packer and I elected to be the two to stay in a couchette with strangers, while everyone else stayed with members of the group. As luck would have it, he and I were both assigned the top bunk in our car. Though this would not normally be an issue, our couchette did not have a ladder to reach the top bunks. This resulted in us having to use our cat-like reflexes to climb up and down. We both inadvertently turned the lights on in the couchette during different parts of the night when we attempted to get up or down, but we did our best and came away from the experience with no broken bones.
